How would you describe your story?

DEB OLIN UNFERTH: It's one of those pandemic-blackout-freeze-strained-marriage stories, with a goose as a main character.

When did you write it, and how did the writing process compare to your other work?

DOU: I wrote it about a year after lockdown ended. And I sat down and pretty much wrote it straight through, which is how my best stuff gets written, and then I revise it for months.

What's the best gift you've ever been given?

DOU: I got married right after Christmas, so maybe my husband.
