Beatrix Potter (1866–1943) was an English writer, illustrator, and scientist whose books for children include The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which has sold 45 million copies worldwide. The Tailor of Gloucester was first published in 1902; of all the stories she wrote, Potter considered this one her personal favourite.
