Walter Dean Myers (1937–2014) was a prolific author of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry who received every major American award in children’s literature, including the Newbery Honor and the Coretta Scott King Award. He also served as the U.S.’s National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature.
